Every man and his dog are still reporting on Steve Jobs’ health. On the whole it’s just speculation or lazy copying of other people’s speculation but I thought this was quite a sensible piece. While I don’t really agree with the author’s stance on Jobs’ privacy, it is an interesting point of view.
Meanwhile, Woz says Jobs’ time away “will probably be a great, great thing for Apple.”</a>
Also, really lazy journalists looking to write a piece on this subject may be grateful for The Steve Jobs Health Story Template. It couldn’t be simpler!
As i mentioned the other day, Seagate are replacing bricked Barracuda drives and offering free data recovery to customers affected, but they also pushed out a firmware update to patch the hard drives that are still working. Only, it seems they’ve cocked that up and the “fix” just bricks working drives.
If your 1TB Seagate Barracuda drive just failed, take some solace in the fact that you are not alone. You may also be very pleased to read that Seagate are doing The Right Thing™ and not just replacing your knackered drive but also offering free data recovery. I am impressed.
Seagate have for a long time been my preferred hard drive manufacturer but have lately been slipping in my estimations. I’ve had a couple of problems with 2.5″ drives from them and now there’s this incredible failure rate on desktop drives. I hoped when they took-over Maxtor that Seagate’s goodness might rub off, not Maxtor’s crappiness drag down Seagate. I guess time will tell. And i’ll find out first-hand since i recently purchased a 500GB external Maxtor drive1 for use with Time Machine.
It seems a January Sales bargain is all i need to overcome brand preference. ↩
